Tracksuits Trending: PART 1

This summer was a strange one for many reasons, but as a result, I feel as though I didn’t get the opportunity to serve as many looks as usual. I blinked and it was time to cosy up in my tracksuits (which tbh I’m not averse to.)

Last year with the help and skills of my girl Lauren we shot some looks that make up the next series here on Dee’s Dynamics, ‘Tracksuits trending’.

This series shines a light on the versatility of tracksuits as I display the varying ways I style them and the inspiration behind each of the looks.

Tracksuits are a garment that are frequently tied to outdated stereotypes. A man, especially a black man is deemed as thuggish and scary in a tracksuit. And as a woman, I‘ve often had my femininity questioned when wearing one.

I’ve noticed personally that as ’90s and early 2000s fashion makes a large mainstream come back some of the widely accepted misconceptions of tracksuits and the people who choose to wear them are starting to be swept away. It seems people are becoming more aware of the real functionality of a tracksuit, the comfortability they offer, and how they are perfect for so many occasions.

Gone are the days of associating tracksuits solely with sporting, sweat and masculinity. In my eyes; a tracksuit is a perfect way to remain comfortable, warm, yet still stylish!

With that being said, let’s get into the first look…

Baby mama bougie is what I’m serving here. Maybe it’s a result of growing up with naughties video vixens as major style inspo but owning my own juicy couture tracksuit literally marked womanhood for me. I actually have the matching bottoms to this velour jacket (thrifted on eBay, obvs). However, they’re too short for my longer than average legs, so I use them to lounge in. As a replacement, I’m rocking these super baggy Juicy Couture bottoms and thought this mismatch worked nicely, especially as the top was so fitted.

You know like when your fave celeb gets papped in the airport with some mad oversized shades? This look is for those times. When you still wanna be comfy in a tracksuit but look a little more… bougie. There’s something about velour that just makes me feel sophisticated.

On my feet are my trusty Jordan 1’s. Which admittedly the insta baddies and street style veterans have worn to death this year and last, but that won’t stop me sporting them!
