Building your wardrobe with Dee’s Dynamics: Why I buy black P1

In the first instalment of this here ‘Building your wardrobe with Dee’s Dynamics’ series I touched on how over the years I’ve begun to take more of an intentional approach when purchasing clothes. Opting for items that require a bit more of an investment or carry more of a story behind them. For me, it just adds to the feelings I exude when I’m wearing an outfit that is made up of thoughtful pieces. Fashion to me is all about expression. I love how I can remain silent but my style will still speak of parts of my identity and character, it’s like a secret language and I’d like to think I’m fluent.

The next several posts in this series are dedicated to outfits I've constructed around pieces from some of my most favoured black-owned brands.

I’ve always spoken of how my identity as a black woman is important in all that I do and fashion is far from exempt. The last few years have seen an incredible rise in the number of black-owned brands coming to the forefront of the fashion world and as a fashion lover, it’s a delight to me to be able to put my money where my mouth is and spend my money on brands that speak to me on a level far past the surface. Black pound day ‘ is a socio-economic movement that strives to ‘serve the needs of the diasporic community’ and encourage individuals to spend their money within those communities more consciously in order to breed long term positive change. Unintentionally, but ironically, the beginning of October also marks the beginning of ‘Black history month’.

So let’s get into this weeks first black-owned look…

This look is giving me running errands in the city real quick vibes. Comfort is still very much so at the core of this, but unlike my usual full tracksuit looks, this one is just giving a hint of bougie with it also. These straight leg tracksuit bottoms are a fave of mine. The drawstring waist ensures that the bottoms are loose in the leg, but cinch in at the waist nicely so they don’t become entirely shapeless. (It’s not everyday super baggy.) I paired the bottoms with this corset top, which is super luxe both in design and quality of the materials. The material is perfectly stretchy and formfitting. the underwiring has the tatas looking real healthy too, if I do say so myself!

Like I said this is a bougie errand running outfit, so we have a little denim throw over in case the top half exposure feels a little too much. I call it a throw over because it’s a really unique blend of materials, like a denim-ish vibe and it feels like somewhere between a shirt and a jacket. This item is that real vintage ROCAWEAR passed down from my pops. I don’t feel like it gets more black-owned that tbh. This is a prized possession in my wardrobe and one I hope to someday pass down to one of the little people in life.

Outfit details:

Jacket: ROCAWEAR (via my dad's wardrobe.)

Top: WMNSWEAR

Bottoms: Never Eat Shredded Wheat

See you guys here for next weeks look,

Dee x
